(The Center Square) - Paramount Skydance won a federal judge’s approval Wednesday to proceed with a $111-billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery in a historic Hollywood merger.

U.S. District Judge Martínez-Olguín in Oakland approved Paramount Skydance’s settlement with Democratic attorneys general from 12 states, who sued to stop the merger. The plaintiffs included Arizona, California, Nevada, Colorado and Washington.

Martínez-Olguín did not add conditions beyond what were made during the agreement between Paramount Skydance and the attorneys general.

The companies own two longtime iconic movie and TV studios – Paramount Pictures in Hollywood and Warner Bros., on a larger campus in nearby Burbank, Calif. Paramount is known for franchises such as "Star Trek," "Transformers" and "Mission Impossible." Warner Bros. is famous for everything from Bugs Bunny to "Casablanca," Batman and Superman movies, and the Harry Potter franchise.

As part of the agreement, Paramount Skydance will produce 30 movies in each of the first two years of the deal and 32 movies in each of the following three years.

In addition to Paramount Pictures, Paramount Skydance owns the CBS broadcast network, the Paramount+ streaming service and cable networks such as Showtime, Nickelodeon, MTV, Comedy Central and BET.

Besides its longtime movie and TV studio, Warner Bros. Discovery owns HBO Max, CNN, TNT, TBS, the Discovery Channel, Cartoon Network, DC Comics and DC Studios.

The antitrust lawsuit was scheduled to go to court in 2027.

The other state attorneys general involved in the antitrust lawsuit are from Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon and Washington.

A draft prospectus reported by Reuters shows Anthropic plans $518 billion in cloud, computing and infrastructure obligations.

Anthropic's April commitment to AWS comes to over $10 billion a year on average.

Amazon's June 30 balance sheet carried its Anthropic holdings at around $190 billion.

10 stocks we like better than Amazon ›

A draft of Anthropic's initial public offering (IPO) prospectus, reported by Reuters on Monday, Sept. 28, puts a number on the company's spending plans. The artificial intelligence (AI) lab plans to spend $518 billion on cloud, computing and infrastructure obligations in coming years, according to the draft.

Amazon(NASDAQ:AMZN) shareholders already know where some of this money is headed. In April, the Claude maker committed more than $100 billion over 10 years to Amazon Web Services (AWS), Amazon's cloud computing segment. That one contract is around a fifth of the $518 billion.

Missed AI’s "Act 1"? Act 2 Could Be 15x Bigger. Most investors think they missed the AI boat because they didn't buy Nvidia in 2005. But according to our analysts, we’re only at the end of "Act 1"—the R&D phase. "Act 2" is the global rollout. Continue »

The draft also shows how the customer behind that contract is doing. It shows large losses. But I think it also shows revenue rising fast enough to make the AWS commitment look affordable.

Is the AWS deal part of the $518 billion?

Yes. A second Reuters report on Tuesday, Sept. 29, split the total by supplier, and about $110 billion of it is owed to Amazon between May 2026 and April 2036. Like most of the $518 billion, that commitment has to be paid even if Anthropic's usage falls short.

And AWS isn't Anthropic's only supplier. The AI lab has also announced a 5-gigawatt deal with Google parent Alphabet and Broadcom, $30 billion of Azure capacity from Microsoft, and a $50 billion plan to build data centers with Fluidstack in Texas and New York.

Still, Anthropic said in April that it keeps choosing AWS as its main training and cloud provider for mission-critical workloads.

Anthropic's revenue is catching up to its bills

Spread evenly, the AWS commitment comes to more than $10 billion a year. Anthropic reportedly spent under that on compute and infrastructure from all suppliers combined in 2025 -- $7.33 billion.

For AWS, $10 billion a year would be about 7% of the $148 billion in sales the segment pulled in over the 12 months through June.

Anthropic's 2025 income statement is rough. Its net loss was $42 billion, though the reporting says around $34 billion of that was an accounting charge linked to financing that could later become Anthropic shares. On an operating basis, it lost over $8 billion, not counting writedowns tied to past fundraising, on revenue of almost $4.6 billion.

But the newer numbers are moving much faster. Anthropic's revenue reportedly hit $4.73 billion in the first quarter of 2026 alone (more than in all of 2025). Second-quarter revenue then passed $11.5 billion, up over 14-fold from a year earlier and more than twice the first quarter.

If growth stays anywhere near this rate, $10 billion a year to AWS looks manageable.

The risk I'd watch is concentration. Almost one quarter of Anthropic's 2025 revenue was from just two customers, according to the draft. And the company warned that many of its biggest clients aren't locked into long-term contracts and could lower or stop spending.

In other words, the obligations to AWS last 10 years, but much of the revenue meant to cover them isn't locked in at all.

Amazon's own stake

Not only does Amazon provide much of Anthropic's computing capacity, but it's also an investor in the AI lab.

Amazon has put $18 billion into Anthropic, split between $8 billion of convertible notes through 2025 and $10 billion of nonvoting preferred stock in the second quarter of 2026. Up to $15 billion extra is available under a financing deal.

On Amazon's balance sheet, these holdings were booked at around $190 billion on June 30 ($92.5 billion of preferred stock and $97.9 billion of convertible notes), with the values based mostly on the prices of Anthropic's private funding rounds. They were around $74 billion three months before and about $61 billion when 2025 ended.

The preferred-stock markups feed into Amazon's reported profit, too. Its second-quarter net income more than tripled year over year to $62.6 billion. But that total included $53.4 billion of pre-tax, non-operating income, mostly from its Anthropic investments. So Amazon's trailing earnings arguably overstate what its core businesses make.

At around $246 a share as I write this, Amazon is worth about $2.7 trillion, so the stake is about 7% of the company on paper. A public listing at the reported valuation of over $2 trillion might shift these values again.

In the end, the draft doesn't change the size of the AWS contract. What it adds is evidence that Anthropic's revenue is rising fast enough to cover the contract, with two big customers as the main risk.

Of course, Anthropic hasn't filed its prospectus publicly yet, so the figures might still change. But for now, I think the numbers make Amazon's contract look stronger than it did before they came out.

SEOUL, Oct 1 (Reuters) - South Korea's factory activity grew in September at the strongest pace in four months, as export demand hit the fastest pace in 15-1/2 years led by the chip and auto sectors, a survey showed on Thursday.

• The purchasing managers index (PMI), published by S&P Global, stood at 53.9 in September, up from 52.3 in August and the highest since May. The index remained above the 50 mark separating expansion from contraction for a 10th consecutive month.

• "Both new orders and production growth hit the highest for around five-and-a-half years, with anecdotal evidence often linking the expansions to the combined strength of the semiconductor and automotive sectors," said Usamah Bhatti, economist at S&P Global Market Intelligence.

• Output rose at the sharpest rate since March 2021, while new orders increased at the fastest since February 2021. New export orders jumped most since March 2011, with notable strength seen in Europe and Asia.

• Manufacturers' optimism for the year ahead improved to an eight-month high.

Rivian is attempting to scale production of its first affordable vehicle.

Robotaxi exposure creates sizable long-term upside potential.

10 stocks we like better than Rivian Automotive ›

Analysts at Cantor Fitzgerald reiterated their "neutral" rating on Rivian(NASDAQ: RIVN) stock on Sept. 28. Curiously, however, the firm also reiterated its $19 price target, which implies more than 20% upside.

In many ways, Cantor Fitzgerald's seemingly contradictory stance makes a lot of sense. Rivian does have plenty of growth potential. But there is also plenty of risk.

Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »

Even if you're not traditionally interested in EV stocks, it looks wise to take a deeper dive into Rivian as an investment opportunity. Share price upside for Rivian could easily surpass Cantor Fitzgerald's price target in the years to come.

Here's why Rivian stock could easily surpass $19 per share

At today's stock price of around $15, Rivian is valued at roughly $22 billion. At $19 per share, Rivian would be valued at nearly $28 billion. To put that into perspective, fellow EV maker Tesla is valued at more than $1.4 trillion.

Rivian, of course, is no Tesla. Last quarter, Rivian generated just 5.9% of Tesla's sales. From a deliveries perspective, Rivian totaled just 2.5% of Tesla's deliveries last quarter. That mostly reflects an average higher price point for Rivian's vehicles.

Yet Rivian's valuation is just 1.5% of Tesla's market cap. Even at $19 per share, Rivian would be just 1.9% the size of Tesla. That's strange considering Rivian arguably has several growth runways that could allow it to ramp sales and gross profits aggressively in the years to come.

Tesla's gross margins, for example, currently hover around 19%. Rivian's gross margins, meanwhile, remain around 2%, only recently turning positive. A big reason for Tesla's superior margins is its production capabilities. In other words, Tesla has benefited from economies of scale, mostly stemming from the mass success of low-price models, including the Model Y and Model 3. Rivian began deliveries of its first low-priced model -- its R2 SUV, with a base price of $48,000 -- earlier this year. The launch not only has the potential to accelerate Rivian's sales growth, but also to narrow its gross margin gap with Tesla as economies of scale take root.

Rivian's biggest long-term growth driver, however, is the same as Tesla's: robotaxis. Morgan Stanley sees robotaxis becoming a $1 trillion market by 2040. Other analysts are even more bullish. Cathie Wood -- the CEO of Ark Invest, a longtime Tesla shareholder -- sees robotaxis eventually becoming an $8 trillion to $10 trillion market.

Tesla plans to benefit from this market by producing its own EVs, selling or leasing them to independent robotaxi fleet operators, and taking a cut of every ride booked through its Tesla ridesharing app.

Rivian is taking a different approach, opting to sell its vehicles to robotaxi fleet operators regardless of which ridesharing platforms they intend to use. Uber Technologies, for instance, recently agreed to buy up to 50,000 Rivian R2 SUVs to help scale its robotaxi efforts.

These two different approaches will generate different sales potential and margins. But both could ultimately succeed. Tesla can compete aggressively as a vertically integrated platform. Rivian, meanwhile, is positioning itself as a core supplier to robotaxi operators that lack internal manufacturing capabilities.

The market seems very bullish on Tesla's approach, yet strangely dismissive of Rivian's opportunity. Given Rivian's potential to scale vehicle sales, improve margins, and sell into the robotaxi market, a long-term market cap well above $30 billion certainly seems possible.

Most US stocks fall after the bond market cranks the pressure higher

By STAN CHOE Wed, September 30, 2026 at 9:04 PM UTC

NEW YORK (AP) — Most of the U.S. stock market fell Wednesday as Wall Street contended with the downside of a U.S. economy that keeps powering through its many challenges.

The S&P 500 slipped 0.3% to close out its third losing month in the last four. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 443 points, or 0.9%, and the Nasdaq composite added 0.2%.

Stocks turned lower after data reports suggested the U.S. economy was even stronger during the spring than earlier thought. That helped yields remain high in the bond market, which in turn kept up the pressure weighing on stocks and all financial markets.

The day began with gains for stocks following an encouraging report that said inflation wasn’t as bad across the United States last month as economists expected. It said the cost of living for U.S. consumers was 3.4% higher overall in August than a year earlier. That was not as high as the 3.7% inflation rate that economists expected, even if it remained worse than the Fed’s 2% target.

The report followed others from earlier in the month about inflation during August, but it’s the one that the Federal Reserve prefers to use.

Shorter-term Treasury yields fell as traders pared bets that the Fed will raise its main interest rate next month to get inflation further under control. They now see just a 37% chance of that, down from the coin flip’s chance seen a day earlier, according to data from CME Group.

That helped the yield on the two-year Treasury briefly fall toward 4.83% before it pulled back to 4.89%, where it was late Tuesday.

But longer-term yields rose in the bond market. That’s in part because worries about high inflation are just one of the reasons longer-term yields have jumped in the United States and around the world.

The seemingly solid U.S. economy is another. Besides Wednesday's better-than-expected report on the overall U.S. economy, another update said growth in business activity in the Midwest was also stronger than economists expected.

Much of the strength in the U.S. economy is due to consumers, who are increasing their spending by more than their incomes are rising.

“The consumer remains resilient, in a much better position than previously thought,” according to Gary Schlossberg, global strategist at Wells Fargo Investment Institute.

Other factors sending Treasury yields higher are also continuing to churn, including worries about the big debt loads that Washington and other governments worldwide are supporting.

Oil prices, meanwhile, rose in their latest swings amid uncertainty about when the war with Iran will allow the flow of crude to be fully restored. Brent crude, the international standard, climbed 1.9% to settle at $98.03 per barrel.

It all helped the yield on the 10-year Treasury, which is the centerpiece of the bond market, drop as low as 5.20% in the morning before rising to 5.29%. That’s up from 5.26% late Tuesday, and it’s back to where it was more than two decades ago in 2002.

The 30-year Treasury yield, which takes into account expectations for inflation and economic growth many years down the line, climbed to 5.64% from 5.59% late Tuesday.

Higher yields slow the overall economy by making borrowing money more expensive for everyone, while undercutting prices for all kinds of investments.

On Wall Street, Cal-Maine Foods dropped 0.7% after the country’s largest egg company reported a larger loss for the latest quarter than analysts expected. With plenty of eggs available in the market, Cal-Maine Foods saw a sharp drop in prices it could charge, compared with a year earlier.

Helping to limit the market's losses was Hewlett Packard Enterprise, which rose 3.9%. It increased its forecast for revenue from its networking business, which is benefiting from the boom in artificial-intelligence technology.

MongoDB climbed 3.4% after the database company’s board boosted its program to send cash to shareholders by $1 billion through buybacks of its own stock. That helped MongoDB recover some of its sharp loss from earlier in the week, after it said Chirantan “CJ” Desai was stepping down as CEO for a senior role at Meta Platforms.

All told, the S&P 500 fell 19.30 points to 7,651.54. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 443.87 to 50,906.05, and the Nasdaq composite added 63.52 to 26,861.06.

In stock markets abroad, indexes dipped in Europe following a mixed finish in Asia. Japan’s Nikkei 225 jumped 1.9%, while France’s CAC 40 fell 0.9% for two of the world’s bigger moves.

EastEnders star Shane Richie has played pub landlord Alfie Moon since 2002

EastEnders actor Shane Richie blamed "baiting" from paparazzi as he was banned from driving for six months after being caught speeding.

Court records revealed the 62-year-old, real name Shane Roche, was hit with the driving ban on 23 September after he admitted the offence in Reigate, Surrey.

He was also fined £500 at Guildford Magistrates' Court and ordered to pay £320 in costs and a surcharge.

Richie, best known for playing Alfie Moon in the BBC soap, is already awaiting trial over a separate alleged offence of drink-driving in Harlow, Essex.

In a note to the court, regarding the speeding offence, Richie said he had been pursued daily by photographers due to his "very public divorce".

The actor accused the press of "constantly baiting me" for months in an attempt to get an angry reaction on camera.

"This is not an excuse for going five miles over the limit, but just a reason why I may have sped up on that particular road," he said.

Richie was caught on camera driving a Ford at 35mph (56km/h) along Reigate Hill - which is a steep climb leading to and from the nearby M25 junction - on 15 March.

In his note to the court, Richie apologised for the offence and said: "Over the past several months I've been followed from my place of work in Borehamwood (Hertfordshire) where I film sometimes six days a week by our British tabloid press…. to my home."

He described being followed into Reigate and to the supermarket.

"It's no secret now that I'm going through a very public divorce and for the last several months the British press have suspected this and have been constantly baiting me and almost always looking for a reaction from me to sell their newspapers," Richie added.

Richie entered a guilty plea in writing and his case was dealt with in private via the Single Justice Procedure.

Richie is due to stand trial for a separate driving offence in November 2027

The TV presenter, who came fourth on I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in 2020, has hosted a number of game shows, appeared in pantomimes and first appeared on EastEnders in 2002.

He faces a trial on 17 November 2027 for the separate drink-driving offence, which allegedly happened at a petrol station in Harlow on 29 July.

Richie is accused of providing a breath sample of 65mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath, which is above the legal limit of 35mcg.

The actor, from Tadworth in Surrey, appeared at Colchester Magistrates' Court earlier in September for that offence, which he has denied.

Jimmy Kimmel on Tuesday mocked President Donald Trump for doing exactly what he attacked his predecessor for supposedly doing.

“Trump has been in office now for almost two years, and he’s still trying to blame everything he doesn’t like on Joe Biden,” Kimmel said before rolling a clip of the president attacking his predecessor.

“Sleepy Joe Biden, have you heard of him?” Trump asked during an Oval Office meeting.

“No, I haven’t heard of him,” Kimmel snarked. “You’ve never mentioned him before.”

What happened next was truly ironic.

“Then, only minutes after invoking the name ‘sleepy Joe Biden,’ nappy Don Trump drifted off to dreamland on live TV,” Kimmel said, and rolled clips of the president appearing to doze during his own event.

Trump, for the record, has insisted he is awake during such moments but is merely “blinking.”

“Sometimes they’ll take a picture of me blinking, blinking, and they’ll catch me with the blink,” Trump told the Wall Street Journal earlier this year.

Prince Harry‘s return to the United Kingdom has sparked widespread debate, but Earl Charles Spencer does not see the move as surprising. During a recent public appearance in New York City, Princess Diana’s brother pushed back against criticism surrounding Harry’s decision to relocate with Meghan Markle and their children. Spencer insisted the choice was far more ordinary than many have suggested.

Earl Spencer reportedly says he finds Prince Harry’s UK move ‘normal’ amid criticism

According to PEOPLE, Earl Charles Spencer addressed Prince Harry’s return while speaking with royal biographer Tina Brown at St. Peter’s Chelsea in New York City. The conversation, hosted by McNally Jackson Books, focused on Spencer’s memoir, “Swan Song: Diana, My Sister.” Brown questioned whether he had encouraged Harry to move back to Britain. “Didn’t discuss it, actually,” Spencer replied.

The discussion grew more animated when Brown suggested the Royal Family often fails to communicate important decisions with one another. Spencer quickly disagreed before defending his nephew’s decision to return home. “But is it astounding that an Englishman wants to move back to England?” he asked. “I don’t think so.”

Brown pointed to Harry‘s difficult relationship with the British press and his decision to leave the country six years ago. Spencer, however, remained unconvinced that the move deserved so much scrutiny. “Seems very normal to me,” he said.

The Earl later expanded on his view, saying people sometimes forget that members of the Royal Family are ordinary individuals beneath their public roles. “I think what’s interesting is, you forget, these are just regular people at heart,” Spencer explained. “This English guy’s lived in California, he wants to live in England. Seems normal.”

The Earl also revealed that Harry, Meghan Markle, and their children stayed with him and his wife, Cat Spencer, during the summer. However, he emphasized that he never interferes in his nephew’s personal decisions. “I never intrude,” Spencer said. “I’m just a guy who’s 20 years older.”

While Princess Diana’s brother acknowledged he is always willing to help if asked, he stressed that he prefers offering support rather than advice. Spencer said he leaves major life decisions, including where to live, entirely up to Harry.

A few photographs have turned an otherwise routine White House return into a moment of intrigue. Donald Trump appears stern while Natalie Harp smiles beside him in images taken after the pair returned from an event promoting a new government website, although the pictures do not reveal what prompted Trump’s expression or gesture.

Donald Trump appears to point while Natalie Harp smiles, though Bill Pulte is visible in another image

The photos show the 80-year-old president pointing in Harp’s direction while she wears an all-white outfit. Another frame shows Bill Pulte, a Trump ally who serves as director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, appearing to be the person both were looking toward. Additional images show Harp leaving a vehicle and walking behind Trump as cameras captured the scene.

The pair had just attended the launch of America.gov, an AI-powered government website designed to give users “simple answers” drawn from legitimate government sources. The reason for Trump’s serious appearance remains unclear. Users on X quickly offered their own theories about what the photographs might mean.

Some of the online chatter focused on Harp’s close working relationship with Trump. One X user joked, “Is he telling her to heel?” while another speculated that Trump might have been unhappy with the shoes she wore.

At 35, Harp is known in Trump’s orbit as the “human printer” because she frequently carries a portable printer and supplies him with printed articles and information. She also helps manage his Truth Social posts. Harp’s formal title is special assistant to the president and executive assistant to the president, with an annual salary of $150,000. She worked as a host at One America News from 2020 to 2022 before joining Trump directly. Harp has credited Trump’s 2018 Right to Try law with helping save her life during her battle with stage 2 bone cancer, although medical experts have disputed whether the law affected her treatment.

Harp’s closeness to Trump has already sparked scrutiny. Sen. Jon Ossoff called attention to it at an August campaign event, while journalists Michael Wolff, Maggie Haberman, and Jonathan Swan have reported that some people in Trump’s circle have raised concerns.

Lil Wayne seems to have found a forever partner.

The rapper, 44, appears to have announced he’s engaged to Madi Cannon, 23, in a video congratulating fellow Hot Boy member B.G. on his engagement to Brooke Jones.

The video, posted to B.G.’s Instagram account, appears to be a FaceTime call between the two.

“Congratulations bitch,” says Lil Wayne. He then points the camera to Cannon, who comes and stands behind his shoulder.

“And I’m marrying this one— this is Madison,” he continues.

“Congratulations,” Cannon says.

“This is my fiancée,” he adds. “And congratulations. Let us know what color we’re wearing. I’m the best man you hear me? Love you bitch.”

B.G. captioned the post, “My lil Brodie gave me his blessings @liltunechi.”

He did not comment on Lil Wayne’s rumored engagement.

PEOPLE has reached out to the rapper’s representative for comment.

News of a possible engagement came months after Lil Wayne denied a report in July that he was engaged.

“I would like to clear something up,” he said during a live stream. “No, I’m not engaged. I had a beautiful thing going on with an amazing person, but, obviously, due to the validity of the temperature of today’s crazy world and culture, I considered, I don’t want to be such a burden on such an amazing person. So, we decided to part. Sucks.”

Late night comedian and host Jimmy Kimmel is constantly be saying and doing things that make national headlines, from feuding with President Donald Trump, getting temporarily suspended from the airwaves and asking New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani to send cheeky text messages. And the world is definitely watching.

ABC announced Sept. 29 that the 2025-2026 season of "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" was its most watched in eight years (since 2017-2018). And for the newly started 2026-2027 season, "Kimmel" is in the top spot.

From 2025-2026, "Kimmel" averaged two million total viewers each week and nabbed 2.29 million viewers its first week of the fall TV season, giving it the No. 1 spot across all of late night in his 11:35pm ET/PT time slot. ABC's release also noted that last season of "Kimmel" scored No. 1 among viewers 18-49, the key adult demographic sought after by advertisers.

"In the final week of the 2025-2026 season ... 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' ranked No. 1 in both total viewers (2.34 million) and Adults 18-49," the release said.

The "Kimmel" numbers mark his clear ascendancy to the top of the late night ratings chart after the former leader, "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert," bowed in May. In 2026, the former CBS show was averaging 2.96 million viewers per episode (including delayed viewing), leading the pack of network TV late-night shows.

The major ratings are likely in part to Kimmel's much-publicized controversies, cultural firestorms and commentaries in the past year. Kimmel was temporarily suspended in September 2025 after the network and parent company Disney chose to "indefinitely" preempt the late-night comedy show following comments Kimmel made about the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Those comments angered many on the right and drew threats from Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr, ultimately launching a weeklong media controversy and frenzy over free speech and President Donald Trump's administration.

His first show back after the suspension drew 6.26 million viewers, "the show’s highest regularly scheduled episode in over 10 years − since 3/12/15," per a news release at the time.

The Kirk incident was not the only big moment for Kimmel during this period. Kimmel has continued to draw ire from Trump and members of his administration, with feuds piling on top of each other.

In a segment on his show that aired on April 23 of this year, Kimmel delivered an alternative White House Correspondents' Dinner monologue in anticipation of the actual event, which did not have a comedian as the headliner. During his monologue, Kimmel quipped, "Mrs. Trump, you have a glow like an expectant widow." Trump later called for his firing after there was a shooting at the actual White House Correspondents' Dinner on April 25.

The tensions continued in June when Trump said he had "taken out" Stephen Colbert and suggested other late-night hosts could be next. Kimmel responded by mocking the president during his monologue.

Kimmel also made news earlier in September after ABC declined to air his interview with James Talarico, the Democrat running for a senate seat in Texas. The comedian alleged that the FCC, under Trump, has "threatened our show" based on "guest bookings, it would seem, they don't like." The Talarico interview, he said, would not air on TV so local ABC affiliates would not have to deal with the FCC's "nonsense."The "Kimmel" YouTube channel eventually published the interview in full, which has since garnered 13 million views.

Kimmel and ABC signed a contract extension for his talk show, a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed to USA TODAY in December 2025. "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" will stay on the network through at least May 2027.

Nike is scheduled to report earnings after the closing bell Thursday.

Recent options pricing suggests traders see the stock swinging up to 8% by the end of the week.

Analysts expect Nike to report a slide in sales and profits from the year-ago period.

Nike is set to post earnings Thursday afternoon, with traders expecting the stock could slide to its lowest point in 13 years.

Based on current options pricing, Nike (NKE) shares are seen swinging up to 8% in either direction by the end of the week. A move of that magnitude from Tuesday’s close could drag the shares down to $33, their lowest point since September 2013. The high end of that range would be close to $39, recovering some of the stock’s recent losses.

Nike shares have lost more than 40% of their value since the start of the year, amid growing worries that the company’s turnaround could take far longer than expected, with some product launches missing expectations and worsening macroeconomic pressures.

Why This Matters to Investors

Nike’s results Thursday could stand to boost the stock, or set it back further, after a yearslong slide.

Bank of America recently downgraded Nike stock, and Morgan Stanley analysts relaunched coverage with a bearish rating as confidence in Nike’s progress weakens. The analysts at Morgan Stanley said Thursday’s earnings call or the company’s annual investor day in November could be a good time for Nike to “reset expectations” about the pace of its turnaround. The apparel maker is approaching two years since CEO Elliott Hill took over in late 2024, and got a new CFO this August.

Nike is expected to report fiscal first quarter revenue of $11.35 billion, a decline of about 3% year-over-year, per Visible Alpha estimates. The company is seen reporting earnings of 44 cents per share, down 5 cents from the year-ago quarter.

Analysts are divided on Nike’s stock, with the 14 analysts tracked by Visible Alpha split between three “buy,” two “sell,” and nine neutral ratings. Their average price target of $44 would suggest more than 20% upside from Tuesday’s close.

Meta [NASDAQ: META] has a hit on its hands with its Muse AI agent.

The digital personal assistant remains the top download on Apple’s App Store, with an estimated 3.4 million people having downloaded the app since its launch earlier this month. But many of those new users may not realize some of the risks they’re assuming when installing the app.

To take full advantage of Muse, you’ll need to give it access to a lot of your data, from files to finances. But a close read of the company’s terms of service for the tool could give some users pause.

One of Muse’s heralded features is its ability to help users track down bargains. The app can also make purchases on your behalf, and Meta says it will always ask for your approval before it completes the purchase. But if you’re someone who habitually hits “ok” when a permission button pops up on your screen, you might want to think twice, because there’s no backing out once you do.

“You’re responsible for all transactions your Muse makes on your behalf,” Meta states on a help page for the app. “Keep an eye out for email confirmations, receipts and statements.”

Concerns beyond finance

Muse’s spending habits aren’t the only concern, as some reviews of the app say it has accessed data it did not have permission to examine.

Inc.’s Jason Aten, for instance, says Muse read his private messages after he explicitly chose not to grant it access to those, as well as other data that contained personal information. The agent claimed it had not accessed Aten’s messages, but had simply read the text of incoming notification banners. Aten’s investigation, though, revealed this to be untrue.

That’s a far stretch from what Meta promised when introducing Muse, saying the company “built Muse from the ground up to be a safe, secure, private and widely available personal AI agent” while assuring would-be users that “each person stays in control of their Muse and decides how much access it gets.”

Why Amazon blocked the app

Users aren’t the only ones who are concerned about Muse.

Amazon has blocked the app from shopping on its platform, pointing to concerns about security and user experience, CBS News reports. The e-commerce giant also cited “unauthorized automated access” as an impetus for blocking the app, which reportedly failed to get authorization before accessing Amazon.com and acting inside customer accounts.

Amazon says it did not authorize Muse to access its store or customer accounts and never gave the app permission to scrape data or process transactions.

“We think it’s fairly straightforward that third-party applications that offer to make purchases on behalf of customers from other businesses should operate openly and respect service provider decisions about whether or not to participate,” an Amazon spokesperson said in a statement shared with Axios.

AI may have a ways to go before it’s a go-to shopping tool for most people, even if it can potentially seek out the best deal for them. But the upcoming holiday season could be a catalyst for the industry. Adobe estimates AI-assisted shopping will increase by 130% this holiday season compared to a year ago.

ORLANDO, Florida, Sept 29 (Reuters) - US and world stocks slipped for a second day on Tuesday, pressured by elevated bond yields, and investor jitters around US inflation figures and potential quarter-end volatility on Wednesday. Bearish sentiment was tempered by falling oil prices.

In my column today, I look at the cracks that are beginning to appear in the AI financing edifice. Bonds issued to fund data center construction are coming under heavy pressure - but is this a warning of more turbulence ahead, or a 'buy' signal?

Today's Key Reads

• EXCLUSIVE-Anthropic's IPO prospectus shows sweeping AI vision, surging costs

• Trump says working with Xi on AI would hurt US companies

Energy -0.9%, utilities +1.1%. US chip sector +1.3%. Apple biggest loser on the Dow, -2.7%. Carnival biggest gainer on the S&P 500, +13%.FX: Dollar +0.3%, strongest in 2 months. Aussie dollar -0.7% after RBA hike, Norwegian krone -1%.BONDS: Selloff pauses in UK and Europe, although French-German spread posts widest close in 14 years. US 30-year yield 5.62%, highest since 2002. Entire US curve within 5 bps of trading above 5%.COMMODITIES/METALS: Oil -2.5%, gold +1% .

Today's Talking Points:

Anthropicology

The Reuters exclusive report on Anthropic's propsoed IPO makes for fascinating reading. The AI giant's revenue grew 12-fold last year, but losses exceeded $8 billion on an operating basis and more than $40 billion on a net basis, according to the prospectus documents for a prospective IPO that is targeting a valuation of more than $2 trillion.

Essentially, the company is spending big, and losing money. Or it has been until now. The hope is that revenues continue to grow at an ever-increasing rate, overtaking the huge spend, and justifying the eye-popping IPO valuation. But the threat of cheaper Chinese models looms large. Anthropic's costs and investment outlays mean it might struggle in a price war, if it comes to that.

Consumer blues

It's a conundrum. The US economy is expanding at an annual pace of around 8% to 9% in nominal terms, and the unemployment rate is 4.1%, a historically low rate essentially reflecting full employment. Yet Americans are gloomier than they have been in years. Consumer confidence slumped this month to the lowest since 2014, and are more insecure about the jobs market than they have been in more than five years.

What gives? Consumer confidence has for years been a poor leading indicator of consumer behavior, and by extension, wider economic growth. Spending has held up, thanks to robust spending by the wealthy, growth is strong and corporate profits and stock prices have never been higher. Maybe a "mean reversion" is overdue?

No quarter given

A tumultuous third quarter draws to a close on Wednesday, a three-month period that saw, in no particular order: a 40% rebound in oil, record US diesel prices, the biggest quarterly slump in corporate bonds since 2022, a crashing wave of AI "doomerism," the Fed raise interest rates and US and global government bond yields hit their highest in 20 years. Oh, and in among all that, stocks hit record highs.

It will be difficult for the fourth quarter to be as seismic, but investors should buckle up. Worries over AI - financial, and its existential threat to humanity - are only likely to deepen; the Fed is on track to continue its tightening cycle; US midterm elections are looming; and the US war on Iran is still raging. Can equities shrug all that off again? The third-quarter earnings season that kicks into gear in the next few weeks will be revealing.

What could move markets tomorrow?

• Japan retail sales (August)

• China 'official' PMIs (September)

• Germany CPI inflation (September, prelim)

• US GDP (Q2, final)

• US PCE inflation (August)

Mark Miller joins Elucid as chief revenue officer ahead of the company's launch of its comprehensive cardiovascular platform, which is comprised of its FDA-cleared Plaque-IQ™ and its BioIntegrated FFR-CT software, pending FDA clearance.

Miller has more than 25 years of experience building and scaling sales organizations across cardiovascular imaging, cardiac diagnostics, and AI-enabled clinical decision support, grounded in a clinical foundation in cardiopulmonary science. He spent a decade between GE Healthcare and Philips, selling directly into cardiology practices and electrophysiology labs. Also, Miller served as vice president of sales at Cassling, a regional distribution and solutions partner for Siemens Healthineers, where he held full P&L responsibility across imaging, procedural, and clinical workflow solutions, scaling bookings and leading a commercial team of more than 40 professionals across sales, customer success, revenue operations and solution sales.

"Mark brings a combination of sales leadership, hands-on clinical credibility in our CT cardiology ecosystem, and the repeatable go-to-market agility and discipline we need to scale our commercial momentum upon FDA clearance of our BioIntegrated FFR-CT software," said Elucid CEO Kelly Huang. "This is a big step towards our commercial launch, and I couldn't be more confident in the team we're building to meet the moment."

"Elucid is doing something genuinely rare in this space. It is applying rigorous, histology-validated science to give physicians a clearer picture of cardiovascular risk," said Miller. "Having spent my career on the front lines of the CT cardiology ecosystem, I've seen firsthand how clinicians need better tools to guide treatment decisions. I'm excited to build the commercial engine that gets this technology into the hands of the physicians and patients who need it most."

About Elucid

Elucid is a Boston-based medical technology company that develops AI to see invisible features of cardiovascular risk. The company is dedicated to developing a clinical platform to help physicians deliver CCTA-guided personalized care by providing a more precise view of atherosclerosis, the root cause of cardiovascular disease. The company's FDA-cleared Plaque-IQ™ image analysis software is designed to help physicians prioritize and personalize treatment based on actual disease, rather than population-based risk of disease. Plaque-IQ equips physicians with critical information regarding the type and amount of plaque in arteries that can lead to heart attack and stroke. Elucid is also pursuing an indication for FFR-CT, which helps physicians identify coronary blockages and the extent of a patient's ischemia non-invasively. Elucid’s BioIntegrated FFR-CT software, which integrates anatomy, plaque biology, and physiology, is derived from its plaque algorithm, resulting in concordance with its plaque analysis.
