Sex and the City's move to Netflix introduces the show to an entire new audience, however that doesn't imply writer Candace Bushnell will get to reap the advantages.

Bushnell, 65, confirmed to The Sunday Times earlier this month that she will not receive royalties from the streaming service.

"The best way men do business is a ponzi scheme," she stated. "All of those men who are in control of things, they only hold shifting these playing cards around to generate income as a result of every time they transfer the cards around any person's skimming."

Bushnell added: "The share of girls in the 1 % who made their own money is about three.5 %, and that's surprising."

The journalist penned the columns that impressed the unique '90s collection. After Sex and the City premiered on HBO, the present expanded into two films and a prequel titled The Carrie Diaries aired on The CW. Bushnell was paid $100,000 for the display rights to Intercourse and the Metropolis and it remains unclear how much she paid for the subsequent projects.

Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery reached a deal in January to license all six seasons of the HBO collection beginning in early April. The two movies and the show's revival collection, And Just Like That, will stay solely on Max.

Sex and the Metropolis premiered in 1998 and targeted on Carrie's (Sarah Jessica Parker) courting life in New York. Her buddies Charlotte (Kristin Davis), Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) and Samantha (Kim Cattrall) also performed a big position within the collection. Everyone however Cattrall, 67, reprised their roles when And Just Like That premiered on Max in December 2021.

Two months after AJLT premiered, Bushnell weighed in on the story lines.

"I'm actually startled by plenty of the choices made within the reboot," she informed The New Yorker in February 2022. "You recognize, it's a tv product, completed with [And Simply Like That creator] Michael Patrick King and Sarah Jessica Parker, who have each labored with HBO rather a lot up to now. Bushnell has since warmed up more to the show after it was renewed for a second — and third — season.

"I'm really having fun with this season," she solely informed Us Weekly in July 2023. "I feel that they had some kinks that they had to work out. It had been a long time, obviously, because the unique Sex in the Metropolis ended.I'm invested within the characters. I all the time need to see what's going to happen. I really like the brand new characters."

On the time, Bushnell reflected on the ongoing interest in the core characters from SATC, including, "I really like the fact that different individuals are so invested within the show and that they actually wanna talk about it. I feel that's incredible."
